Important Tips When Choosing Mobile Home Rain Gutters And Downspouts

Rain gutters are relatively small but very critical components of a buildings roofing system and is without doubt an important long term investment in the infrastructure of your home. gutters come in several shapes and sizes known as profiles. The most popular gutter used today in the mobile home fraternity is the open gutter which is available in standard lengths for DIY and continuous rolls formed seamless gutters which are usually installed by a qualified contractor.

Most residential gutters are usually available in two main sizes, the 5” and the 6”. They are made from a variety of materials such as Copper, Vinyl, Steel and Zinc in a standard 'K’ style. The typical 5 inch K-style gutter does come with at least 2 by 3 inch downspouts. A relatively larger mobile home gutter system would consist of at least 6 inch gutter (K-style) using a 3 by 4.

It is worth mentioning that one foot of the 5 inch K-style gutter has a holding capacity of 1.2 gallons of water whereas a one foot of the 6 inch K style gutter has a holding capacity of 2 gallons of water. It is important to take all these factors into consideration when choosing your gutters because failure to do so may damage your walls, basement, landscaping and floors. Always make a point of cleaning the gutters because they tend to have lots of leaves and other debris. In fact, during dry weather, gutters are a fire hazard.

Downspouts on the other hand are drainage pipes that direct rain water from the roof to the ground. downspouts are usually attached to the corners of mobile homes. they are important because without properly functioning downspouts, rainwater can fall off the roofs edge and may end up causing flooding and lots of damage to the entire structure. the main problem with downspouts is that they tend to clog very easily and it is therefore important to run a hose through the gutters from time to time so as to reveal if there are any clogs present. They are usually attached to the mobile home using downspout brackets which are removable and relatively easy to clean. They are made from a wide variety of materials such as copper clad, aluminum, lead coated copper, pre-weathered zinc, paint grip steel, euro copper, and galvanized steel and copper.
